Elijah wasn't sure of the last time he'd anticipated something this keenly, and given who and what he was, that was something truly remarkable. Indeed, it had been a last minute whim that had brought him to the Opera House earlier that night, as he'd found himself with no particular plans and was merely seeking out a way to pass the time instead of simply staying in. What good fortune he'd chosen the opera for his entertainment that evening, Elijah thought to himself, for otherwise he would have missed the event that had become the talk of Paris society in an instant.
He'd attended the opera dozens of times, of course, and had a great appreciation for their work, but he had never felt moved until tonight. The difference? A last minute substitution for the lead role, a chorus girl stepping in for the diva, no less. And Christine Daae had taken that stage and stunned everyone in attendance, Elijah very much included.
During the festivities backstage after the performance, he'd hovered at the edges, wanting to have little to do with the revelers, but needing to get close enough to Christine to make contact. A few quickly exchanged messages and his ancient heart tripped just a bit faster to know she would arriving at his townhouse soon.
Elijah decided that fate had done well so far that night, so he would allow it to do what it would with Christine's visit. He'd fed earlier in the evening, and so there was little chance of him losing his control around the young woman and robbing the opera of its newest star. But as he'd watched her on the stage, not only had she roused his emotions, but his hungers as well.
He heard the door, followed by his servant announcing Christine's arrival. Elijah adjusted his jacket and descended the stairs to greet her.
